Horse Riding On A Budget

When I was in college, one of my good friends was on the equestrian team. I have to admit, I knew nothing much about horses until she started teaching me. I went to a few horse shows before she took me to a specialty store in Atlanta to buy new boots. I had no idea how expensive all of the gear could be!

Now that I'm a parent and an aunt, I'm seeing the other side of riding. My niece received a horse for her birthday and is very interested in riding now! I was looking over all of the costs, fees and items needed for lessons and let's just say they can add up very quickly. You know me, I'm always looking for a good deal and I luckily found Equestrian Clearance this week.

What is needed when beginning riding lessons? The most important item needed is a helmet. However, many instructors have helmets, so be sure to call and ask before shelling out the extra money. You also need the appropriate type of legwear. For instance, you may need to wear either blue jeans for a western saddle or stretch pants for an English saddle. Plus, Chaps from equestrian clearance are necessary to protect legs and so they do not get pinched on the leather stirrups. Lastly, be sure to get a good pair of riding boots. These are necessary because you want to be comfortable and you must have a heel on the boot to keep the stirrup from sliding.

As you can see, the price of riding can definitely add up, but if you know where to shop and find deals, like at Equestrian Clearance, you can save money and get the items needed for successfully completing lessons! Since college, I have been around horses quite often and absolutely love them. I hope my kids share the same love once they get a little bigger because I'd be so excited if they chose to take up riding, too.

I love horses - my aunt used to have a couple and I loved to go riding... though I will be honest I didn't realize all the cost involved, yikes! At least there are great sites like this!
