Better Health & More Energy Means A Better Mama

Being a mom is always challenging, never-ending, and oft-times exhausting. It is for these very reasons I must take vitamins! I have two rambunctious boys, ages 2 and 4, who are always, always on the go and, of course, never sit still until naptime or bedtime. I need the energy to keep up with them and the healthy immune system to keep the sickness away from myself and my family!

Getting ready to go!

Before having children, I didn’t take vitamins and suffered the consequences. When the fall season came around, I knew exactly what was in store for me: sickness, sickness, and more sickness. If I came into contact with someone who was sick, there was no doubt I would soon have it.

Having very active children has given me all the inspiration I need to be a better, healthier Mama! When I was pregnant with my second son,  I took my daily prenatal vitamins and, just as with my first, I noticed how healthy I felt, how radiant my skin was, and how much energy I had. When he was born, I continued taking prenatal vitamins to produce healthy breastmilk for him and provide for him all the nutrients and vitamins needed as a preemie. This turned out to be pivotal for him gaining weight and being very, very healthy.

My silly boy!
I’ve continued taking prenatal vitamins and also take an echinacea supplement for an extra immune system boost. I want to be the best Mama I can be and vitamins help me achieve more than I ever could without them. Being able to provide for my children is a wonderful feeling, but being able to keep up with them, stay active and participate in fun activities with them is even more fulfilling. The children grow up so quickly and I want to experience as much as possible with them and create wonderful memories.  Thanks to taking vitamins, I not only feel better and have a healthier immune system, but I feel like I’m a much better Mama.

Taking vitamins is something I need to be better at. I take my kids' vitamins sometimes...does that count?

@Amy- definitely taking some vitamins are better than nothing. I know when I was pregnant, for a while the prenatals were making me sick, so the Dr. suggested taking 2 children's chewable vitamins.

What a great post! I've noticed that I feel much better, too, and healthier when taking vitamins. If only I could remember to take them. Any suggestions for remembering to take them on a daily basis?
Thanks, Judy

I probably should, but I don't. I do, however, make sure I pack my diet FULL of nutrient rich foods. And I was religious about prenatals while pregnant and nursing. I should probably look into it again - along with a few other supplements my mother has recommended to deal with some of the hereditary depression/sleep rhythm issues we have. Whew.

How wonderful that you not only did this for yourself, but for your children. You and your family end up benefiting from the vitamins. I noticed how great I felt while on prenatals, too. Maybe I should give those a try again?!

Vitamins are definitely very helpful in keeping our immune systems strong as the cold season comes up.

I used to take vitamins daily, but since getting pregnant, I can't stomach them! It's terrible but I can't swallow them, chewables (all kinds) make me gag, and even liquid vitamins almost made me throw up. I can't even stand the smell my children's vitamins. So weird!!

I did some substitute teaching a few years ago, and it seemed like I was always sick! I've been taking a really good vitamin for about the last year, and I've hardly been sick at all! Makes a huge difference.

Yes, now that one of my kids is in school, it's one sickness after another. I actually give them gummy vitamins each day and I think that has really helped their immune systems. They may get little colds, but the seem to come and go pretty quickly at least. :)

Laura takes prenatal vitamins, too. I really should start taking some One a Day for Men or something.
