Holiday Gift Guide: Glee Gum Make Your Own Candy Kits Review & Giveaway

Although chewing gum (just like Glee Gum) was originally made with chicle, which comes from trees in the rainforests of Central America, many gums these days are made with synthetic resins and other chemicals. Glee Gum is an all-natural alternative to the other chewing gum on the market. Not only is Glee Gum created from natural ingredients, it is also presevative-free, and free of artificial flavors, colors, and sweetners. In addition, making gum with chicle also helps save the rainforests. Oh, and did I mention the gum is also gluten, dairy, soy, and nut-free?

Glee Gum comes in a variety of flavors and there are also Glee Gum Make Your Own Candy Kits for kids! Your kids can make their own Glee Gum, Gummy Worms, or Chocolate! Each kit comes with all of the ingredients needed to make candy and fun facts relevent to the candy. It's fun for adults, especially when you get to eat your finished creations.

My Thoughts

I knew the Glee Gum Make Your Own Candy Kits would be a hit with Josiah. We chose the Gummies(gummy worms) Kit and had to make some as soon as it arrived! The kits are recommended for children 8 years of age and older so, I definitely had to help him out a bit. That's okay because I was very intrigued by the entire process.
I never knew this, but gummy worms are made with carrageenan, a seaweed extract, which helps make them gummy. So, the first thing we did was boil a piece of seaweed in water. The smell was a little funky, but not overwhelming. Then you mix everything together and heat it to make a sticky, runny goo. Be careful not to get it on you because it's super hot!
hot goo!
The kit also comes with molding starch. For the next part, you can get very creative. Find different items around the house to make different shapes. All you do is push them into the molding starch to create the shape and then pour in the gummy goo. This part is the messy part. The molding starch is essentially flour and easy gets all over. You have to be very careful to keep it on the plate so, I recommend using a pan or baking sheet.
our shape-makers and mess!
We used bendy straws, a rattle shaped like a flower, a measuring spoon, and play-doh utensils to make shapes in the molding starch and they worked great! Josiah was able to help me make shapes, but I poured in the goo. Once the goo is in the starch, you carefully move it to the refridgerator and guard it from children for about 15 minutes or so.

The finished product!
This picture is of our first batch of gummy worms. The mix makes much more than this, but the great thing is, if you don't use it all, cover it, put it in the fridge, and reheat it the next day for more fun. That's what we did and it worked just fine. I didn't want to make too many at once because I knew Josiah would want to eat them all.
All and all, I was very pleased with the Glee Gum candy kit. Josiah had a blast, but it definitely makes a mess so, be prepared to wipe up some goo and/or starch. It was a very easy clean up and then we got to enjoy our work with a gummy worm. I could still taste the seaweed a little, but it didn't seem to phase Josiah at all. He gobbled them up as fast as he could. I had to sneak some for me and the hubs. Next time, I would love to try the gum or chocolate kits. They all look great!

Hard to decide which to try first. I think I would do the Gummy Kit. I was pleased to find so many stores close to us that carried this product. I will be getting a kit or two to do with our grandson.
