Looking back to when I was in middle school, there was always that one person who was mean to the younger kids and took advantage of their size. This bullying happened to us on a daily basis on our bus ride home from school. The bully was a high school student and he never let an opportunity pass to say something rude, push around the little ones or just make them feel horrible. The time came when he decided to bully me and, luckily, I knew how to stand up for myself. Needless to say, he didn't bother me anymore.

Unfortunately, many children do now know what to do when being bullied. My son, Josiah, gets his feelings hurt so easily and tries to make everyone happy. This is why I have worried about this happening to him once he begins school next year. The best way to approach the subject of bullying is to talk with your children, be honest and teach them how to prevent bullying.
