Learning How To Pitch Harder: My Softball Experience

I started playing softball at 5 years of age and loved every minute of it. After t-ball for one year I was ready for something more challenging. I was a tomboy at heart and wanted to play sports non-stop. Thankfully, I lived in a neighborhood of all boys and they wanted to play ball, too. Those were the days of staying outdoors until the sun went down and we could not see the ball anymore. When I hit 11 years old, I went p to a new age group for softball. Little did I know, this group would be much  more competitive and I had to prepare myself to compete for positions on the field. At this point I had tried out a variety of positions, but none really captured my attention. Then, we were walking by a field where some older girls were playing fast-pitch softball and I was captivated. That was exactly what I wanted to do and I was determined to do so.

I went to the coach and told him I wanted a chance to pitch. He was reluctant since I was such a little skinny, tiny girl, so I spent some time sitting on the bench, unfortunately. In the meantime, this gave me lots of time to practice and that is what I did. One night our pitcher got injured and coach needed someone else to play. All of a sudden I was off the bench and walking towards the mound. This was my big moment and it just happened to be the very first game we won that season! Talk about exhilarating. My coach even apologized for not putting me in sooner and recommended pitching lessons so I could learn to pitch harder. I was all for lessons and dedicated myself to learning speed and control.

The lessons were very intensive, but I learned how to control my pitch and got my speed up quite a bit. To this day, I can still pitch straight and hard. Luckily, my relatives love playing ball, so I get to show off every once and a while. It's quite surprising for a thirtysomething mom of two to get out on the field and outpitch the men, but that's what I do!
Would you like to learn how to pitch harder?

This is a sponsored post for Pitch Harder, however, all the points and views are my own.

My daughter, at age 14, is actually at a softball tourney this weekend. There is agroup that plays other teams from around the nation, although there isn't a pro softball league. She played through high school and college, and won several college scholarships playing. It's great to have something that you love to do so much.

p.s. she is multi talented and plays several positions, including pitcher.

I would love to learn how to play softball or any sport really, I never had the chance during childhood to participate.

ok, thanks to a "littleinspiration" and this post, you now have a new blog follower! Man, I wanna be you right now!! LoL, growing up with ALL girls, I could host a tea party like no other or throw a mean barbie fashion show. But with now I have a son, (yes, he already has an appreciation for the art of a tea ceremony & fine miniature couture) and Lawdha'mercy, he is a BOY'S BOY! Though I've chosen to be single now, I fully intend to be the cool mom who can teach her boy a thing or two on any field! lol, if I don't get 'committed' first.

I used to play as a kid. Pitching was def. not my area of strength...come to think of it, neither was batting, lol. I'd like to get my daughter out though and see what she thinks.

I played a lot as a kid too and we also had lots of boys in the neighborhood. But then, I got hit in the head a couple times out there and started having some fear of that ball. That was pretty much it back in my days...which was a LONG time ago. That's great you learned all of that not to mention, won that game...woohoo! Way to go girl!

I play t-ball with my son now that he is 4 years old so I know exactly what you mean. Yes, I would learn how to pitch harder because I have to be the best trainer I can be for my son who is learning.

I played softball from age 8 through high school. I was a catcher all through high school. I'd definitely like to coach little league sometime in the future.
