DivaCup Review & Giveaway

Flashback to high school: I'm sitting in one of my classes when all of a sudden I feel something wet in my pants. I slowly edge out of my desk and wobble, penguin-style to the desk to ask for a bathroom pass. Then, I bolt to the bathroom with my arms covering my backside. Even though I had in a tampon, it leaked, just as it has a million times since. Each time I'm unprepared and embarrassed at the situation. What was the alternative? A pad? No way I'm wearing an unsanitary product that feels like a diaper! Now there really is an alternative to pads and tampons that every woman should try... the DivaCup.

DivaCup Basics
The DivaCup is a non-absorbent menstrual cup that simply collects menstrual flow. Inserted at the lower base of the vaginal canal, worn internally. It cannot be felt nor can it leak when inserted properly! The DivaCup is a clean and convenient method of feminine hygiene protection because there is no need to touch the flow. It's easy to remove and no mess is involved.
You can wear the DivaCup for all activities, giving women true freedom without the worry, guessing and unreliability that disposable feminine hygiene products pose. You can wear the DivaCup up to 12 hours before emptying, washing and reinserting. In addition, it's great for light or moderate flows, making it perfect for overnight usage, too!

My Thoughts
After having my first son, I opted for an IUD, which would magically make my period disappear, but the IUD was not inserted correctly and caused all sorts of issues. This is when I started doing some research. I was sick of using tampons, which can cause TSS and aren't very reliable. I also wanted an eco-conscious alternative. Mama cloth was one option, though I felt I already washed enough cloth diapers to last me a lifetime. Then I found out about the DivaCup and couldn't wait to give it a try.
I loved the idea of something that wouldn't absorb because tampons are sometimes uncomfortable for me. Plus, the DivaCup is BPA-free, Latex-free and plastic-free. There are no dyes, colors or additives involved either, so it is very safe to use. It took me a few times to get used to putting it in, but it's true- once inserted correctly, you can't feel it at all!

I stay very active and am always on the go, so I am so happy to now have something that is not only reliable, but can be worn up to 12 hours. Plus, you can save so much money AND it is eco-friendly! Just think of all the waste you are NOT creating by using the DivaCup. That alone gives me reason to love it. I love my DivaCup and highly recommend it to all women. I think it's something all women should give a try. They retail for $39.99 and can be found online as well as stores near you. I found them on Amazon.com for around $25.

To be more Eco-conscious, the major things we do are cloth diaper, try to buy local produce, and take public transport when we can.

I use cloth diapers, and I used cloth wipes for a long time, and like them. I also use Mama cloth some, and like it. I breastfeed, homebirth, and love natural food when it is available. My sister really loves her diva cup, and I would like to try one!

We use reusable bags when shopping and use snack/sandwich bags and reusable lunch sacks, containers etc. whenever we can. Dd is CDed although it's only night since she is potty trained...lately she's been wanting to be a big girl and wear her panties to bed :-( I use a menstrual cup and mama cloth for most of my cycle.

Our main focus these days is buying less. Then there's less packaging and broken toys to throw out down the road.

It started with cloth diapers and now I'm finding myself reusing instead of disposing all over the place. It's amazing how much I used to throw away!
