I often mention our family being on a budget. We try to save as much as possible each month by using coupons and cutting down on other unnecessary items. Most of the time, all goes well with the money saving, but sometimes it backfires... especially when there are children around. Looking back on it now, I can laugh, but at the time I was so upset and horrified. 

What happened? Well, for my son's 1st birthday, I decided to save money by not buying a cake. Instead of paying the $60 we usually shell out, I was going to bake cupcakes. I bought all of the stuff, had already started mixing and then Liam needed a diaper change in the middle of the process. Little did I know, my toddler son had tiptoed into the kitchen... I made the first batch of cupcakes and thought they looked a little weird, so we let them cool and tested them out. My husband started gagging, my mom just looked at me and I spit mine across the room. SALT! Josiah had loaded salt into the cupcake batter while I was out of the room. Talk about awful. I was sooo embarrassed and mad! I had still had 3 batches to make and had to remake the first batch, too. All I can say is at least we tried them out before serving them to other guests. Needless to say, the next year we went for the $60 cake again. No more cupcake baking for me!
