About Heelys
Heelys are the original shoes with wheels in the heels that allow the user to transition from a walk to a roll by shifting the weight to the heel. Users can also transform Heelys into street shoes by removing the wheels. In addition to the original Heelys first released, there are several other types now available, too!
- Heelys HX2: Heelys HX2 has two removable wheels in each shoe, making it ideal for younger kids and beginners. Not only is it easier to maintain balance, but the HX2 also does not require as much leg strength to lift up your toes to skate. When you get the hang of skating, convert the HX2 into a normal pair of Heelys by removing the front wheel. Pull out both wheels, and the HX2 becomes a normal pair of street shoes.
- Heelys Nano: Exclusively for Heelys footwear, Nano is the first ever inline footboard. Nano provides a stable platform for your front foot, keeping your free foot free to build momentum, carve sharp turns and perform a wide variety of tricks. It combines the speed of a skateboard with the stealth and maneuverability of Heelys to create a whole new skate experience.
My Thoughts
I had no idea Heelys offered shoes for children and adults! They have a variety of styles for men and women so you can choose colors that best represent your personality. I wanted a pair that could double comfortably as a tennis shoe and as Heelys, so I chose the Heelys Wave in pink and gray with a 3D Heely's logo on the sides.
I've had issues with sizes not fitting the way they should before, as I have a big foot (9.5), but the Heelys fit perfectly. They are also very comfortable and padded on the inside. My nephew has Heelys and skates around with ease, so I thought for sure I could figure it out. My kids and husband were laughing their heads off at me as I held onto the deck trying to skate. Needless to say, I was beginning to trust the phrase "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" because I really stink at it.
I talked to my Dad and he said that my nephew was awful when he first started learning and just kept trying, falling, and trying again until he figured it out. I wish the HX2 shoes for smaller children were available for adults, too. I think it would be great to try those first and get a grasp before moving up to the others. I'm getting better at Heely-ing around, but I still need some practice. Also, if you are trying Heelys, please refer to the Heelys Safety Playbook for useful tips on learning and staying safe.
