When my first son was born, my husband and I made the decision to become more eco-conscious and to also try more natural products. Cloth diapering, essential oils and homemade detergents became a part of our lives and we felt great about reducing our carbon footprint. Two years later, my second son Liam was born and this began a time of even bigger change for our family. Liam was a preemie, born 5 weeks early, and while in the NICU we began to see just how sensitive he was (and still is) to his entire environment. The diaper creams, soaps, vitamin supplements added to breast milk, and disposable diapers all caused reactions both inside and outside of his body. From the moment we brought him home, experiments began with baby products to find the ones that were perfect for his sensitive skin.

Liam has very dry skin, which cannot be moisturized with just any baby lotion. The wrong ingredients not only dry out the skin even more, but cause him to break out, become uncomfortable, fussy, and itchy. He also has eczema, another easily irritated skin condition that still flares up often and caused him to itch even more. We realized immediately that our safest bet was natural baby products, so I was very excited to learn more about Baby Mantra!

We received a package of Baby Mantra products to try, including these:

All of the products contain soothing and moisturizing natural ingredients along with essential oils, so they not only smell amazing, but also keep the skin baby soft! The boys were so excited to see bubble bath and made sure we tried it that night. As soon as I opened up the bottle, I could smell the lavender, one of my favorite scents that is also known for its calming properties and perfect for babies/children before bedtime. Just putting a bit in the water produced plenty of bath time fun for the kiddos and they also loved the scent.

I love that the 3-in-1 bubble bath, shampoo + wash has multiple purposes! I can wash my babies from head to toe, get them squeaky clean, and smelling yummy. Both of my boys also have dry scalp issues and Josiah's red hair is prone to tangles, so I was happy to see the detangling conditioner. It contains coconut and lavender oil, instantly making Josiah's hair feel silky smooth while not drying the scalp as other products can and have.

After bath time is when the calming lotion comes in and is the perfect touch for keeping skin soft. The shea butter moisturizes along with the lavender oil, which also calms baby for bedtime. This also makes for a great massage lotion, further soothing baby fast asleep.

Graco Little Lounger Is Simply Heaven For Babies... and Moms! { Graco Little Lounger Event #Graco15ForMe }

A few weeks ago, I was invited to attend an event with some other amazing Atlanta area bloggers to learn all about the new Graco Little Lounger! I couldn't wait to go because we love Graco products and have owned/used several over the past years, including carseats and strollers. Krystyn, from Really? Are You Serious? Blog hosted the event and we had a blast. We also had a special guest, Meryl, from a local Yoga studio, Sacred Thread Yoga, to teach us some easy Yoga routines for moms. It's so important to take some time for yourself each day, especially when you have a baby. While they are napping in their Graco Little Lounger, take 15 minutes to stretch and do some Yoga. Liam had a lounger when he was a baby and it ended up being his most favorite item we owned. In fact, it was the only thing he would sleep in for quite a while and we had quite a time trying to transition him to his crib. I always wondered why my mom had a huge purse when I was a child. I thought it was so silly back then, but now that I have kids, I know exactly why she did. Our Thoughts
As a fan of British culture and history, traveling over to England in the past, I was so excited to work with Pink Lining and receive one of their changing bags. After much deliberation, I decided on the Poppins Bag Blue Bouquet. This adorable bag is a bit longer than the other Pink Lining bags and gives extra room for all of baby and mom's essential items. There really is plenty of room, not only in the nappy pockets for diapers and wipes, but there are 2 insulated bottle holders built into the side of the bag, too. In addition, there is a pen holder, key bob and a smaller zip pocket as well. This bag has become my purse/diaper bag. I love that the straps are expandable, so I can wear it across my shoulders almost like a messenger bag.

As if the bag wasn't great already, there is also a padded changing mat and a zippered wet zip bag for on-the-go moms like me. Since we use cloth diapers, this is perfect for us! Now I can just put them in the bag and go about our shopping without worry (or smell). As we cloth diapering moms already know, they take up a great deal of room in the diaper bag, but the Poppins bag has plenty of room for several cloth diapers as well as wipes and other much needed accessories. I've even stashed my laptop in it a few times and usually have my iPad in it as well.

Great Baby & Toddler Gift Ideas For Special Occasions

As a parent, it is very important to me to look for eco-conscious alternatives when purchasing items for my children. Since we live in a rural mountain area, there really aren't any local shops nearby with eco-friendly products unfortunately, so we do most of our purchasing online. I am sure many of you can relate. Purchasing online often actually saves me money and, when I purchase from Babe-Equip, I can receive free shipping when the items equal over £49.99!

If I have learned anything over the years, it's what items and toys babies and toddlers will love! That's why I have put together some gift ideas.

Here are some of my suggestions for great baby and toddler gift ideas:

Strollers Accessories To Keep Baby Warm
We like using our baby carrier, but sometimes it's not possible. For these times, we use our stroller and, with the upcoming cold weather, warm stroller accessories are a must! Cosie Toes, Cocoons, and footmuffs are perfect for keeping baby warm.

 

Eco-conscious Wooden Toys
I love purchasing toys for babies and toddlers! Wooden toys are the way to go because they are eco-friendly and long-lasting. We have several great wooden toys in our house and many of them are either Melissa and Doug or EverEarth! Both of these are favorites with my boys. These make great presents and always please. The walker in the picture is perfect for babies 18 months and older!

Balance Bikes
When my oldest, Josiah, started showing an interest in bikes, I did some research and found that wooden balance bikes were the perfect way for toddlers to improve balance and prepare for learning to ride a real bike. The Kiddimoto Kurve is the one we purchased with the Union Jack print. Josiah loves it!

Training Potties
We have used cloth nappies with both children and highly recommend parents giving them a try. However, now that Liam is getting older, we've started the potty training process! He is so resistant, but there are some great potty training products that can help the process, including travel potties for the upcoming holiday season when we are in the car so often. This may not sound like a go-to present, but we gave Liam his for Christmas and he was thrilled to receive such a big boy item!

Joovy Groove Umbrella Stroller Review

I am definitely the minority in my house, being the only girl in a house full of boys! Yes, our house is always full of excitement (and a total mess), but we love to play games and are a very active family, on the go almost every day and enjoying every minute of the spring and summer weather. If they could, my boys would probably live outdoors. This is why we have to buy quality baby and children's items! My boys play rough and we play every single day! We had an umbrella stroller that promptly died when we moved up to the mountains. It could not handle the rugged terrain, the unpaved roads and hills, so we needed one that could withstand the mountains... and my boys! I have always heard wonderful comments about Joovy strollers, which is why I was so excited to receive the Joovy Groove to review.

My Thoughts

As soon as we received our Joovy Groove, my husband couldn't wait to put it together for a walk. Since we live in the mountains, we can easily hike a short trail after dinner to get out any of that extra energy Josiah has. Unfortunately, Liam is usually already past his prime and ready for sleep and gets a bit fussy. This is why we wanted an umbrella stroller and the Groove is absolutely perfect for our needs.

This amazingly compact stroller is was not only easy to put together, but is easy to tote around, fitting in our trunk with much space to spare and light-weight so I can pick it up without any issues. There are many things I absolutely love about this stroller, including:

1. There is a side latch that keeps the stroller snapped shut AND a side handle with a grip so you can easily carry the stroller around with out it slipping and popping open. That has been a huge issue with strollers in the past!

2. Look at the Mama's eye-view picture below. There is plenty of room for sippy cups, drinks, keys, spare change and any other little items I may need with the 2 drink holders and pouch.There is also a little piece of fabric that can fold down to reveal a peaking hole I can use to spy on Liam from up above when the oversized canopy is shading him from the sun.

3. There is a large basket for carrying extra items is underneath the stroller. Our last stroller did not have this feature and I ended up hanging the diaper bag on the handles, which is not at all safe. There is so much room in this area!

4. In the above pictures you can also see the breaks on the wheels, a must-have for those of us who live in the mountains. We don't want an accident occurring!

5. Liam loves it! He didn't want to get out. It even reclines if he wants to take a nap and I can adjust the edge of the seat to prop his legs up. This feature would work better for smaller babies. I remember having to manually recline the stroller for Josiah when he was a baby (aka, break my arms off holding the stroller back so he could nap) and that was no fun at all. This is a much better way!

Of course big brother had to take a turn pushing Liam, too!

As you can tell, we absolutely adore this stroller and know it will be very useful for many years and babies to come! I'm sure you will see it in my pictures in the future since we'll be able to easily take it along for vacations and road trips. Since this stroller is for babies 3+ months and can hold up to 55 pounds, you can get so much use out of this stroller. We've been using it quite often and I can definitely vouch for its ability to sustain a great deal of usage on rough terrain. The Joovy Groove is my favorite umbrella stroller and is something I think all families can benefit from purchasing.

I have to admit that when I was younger, I didn't do very much to lead a natural lifestyle. I was a vegetarian and did recycle, but that's about it. Now that I have a family to think about, my lifestyle has definitely changed for the better. We are much more eco-conscious and I try to instill my children with the same values. We are always finding new ways to live more naturally.

Bringing a newborn home is quite a shock to the system, especially when waking every 2 or so hours in the middle of the night. If you are bottle feeding, whether breast milk or formula, it's a process. Mixing formula requires several steps and some brainwork. When you finally get back in bed, you are wide awake again and, if you are anything like me, you just can't get back to sleep. Well, it's time Mamas and Papas get a break from making bottles! My Thoughts

This is, by far, the coolest baby product I've had the chance to review this year!! Beaba makes a variety of useful baby products, but this one definitely takes the cake! When I had Josiah in 2007, I couldn't have even imagined something so innovative. I remember stumbling to the kitchen in the middle of the night to mix up bottles and other times when I was holding a crying boy, trying to make the bottle with one hand. It could get very tiring and frustrating at times, but all of this can be a thing of the past!

With the Bib'expresso, the baby's bottle is ready in 90 seconds and heated to the absolute perfect temperature. All you have to do is fill the machine with water. While it's heating for the 90 seconds, fill your bottle with formula. Place it on the holder and push the button to dispense the water. It couldn't be any easier, even with just one hand!

If you are heating breast milk, this takes a little longer because you must use the bottle warmer. It's a water bath with two temperature settings, one is for a bottle and one for food. In addition, the bottle warmer bath can be removed, which is great for traveling. 

I love the Bib'Expresso and know it will be useful for many years to come. It's Papa-friendly, too, and my husband also loves it! Now I don't have to beg as much to get him up in the middle of the night. We've also been passing it around already since one of my sis-in-laws just had a baby and the other is due this Fall. I also love that there is a built-in bottle sterilizer. It's such a great invention and pretty much takes care of the bottle process without having to buy a bunch of separate pieces. I don't know one Mama who wouldn't love to have a Bib'expresso, especially those who are powder formula feeding.

Maamam Aacua Towel Review

Picture this: It's the end of the day, you are tired, the kids are tired, but you know they really need a bath. Ugh! You already know what's in store with water splashing everywhere, your back breaking trying to multi-task, slipping on the water, and then your poor baby freezing when you are trying to pull him/her out of the water! It's tiring for everyone involved The aacua towel by maamam was created for these very reasons! As soon as I saw an advertisement about the aacua, I had to have one and was so excited to review it!

What is aacua?

First, aacua acts as an apron by tying around you while giving your child(ren) a bath. This protects your clothes from getting soaked. Since aacua wraps around as an apron, it's already there when your child(ren) get(s) out of the bath. This is when many accidents happen and these can be eliminated with aacua!  For babies, aacua actually works as a swaddler. Just pick up your baby and wrap them up in the cuddly 100% terry cloth.  If you have a toddler, aacua acts as a bath wrap, with a hoodie to keep their heads from getting cold, too!

My Thoughts

One night, when my first son, Josiah, was still a baby, I had him in the bathtub. He has always loved taking a bath and, as usual, was having a great time splashing and playing with toys. I turned my head slightly, reached to get the towel and, all of a sudden, I heard a splash. Poor Josiah slipped and got water all in his ears, eyes, and nose. Then came the crying that just breaks my heart, especially because the accident was completely my fault. This was one of the 'bad parent' moments of my life. All of this could have ben avoided with an aacua!

One of my major issues with baby towels is how thin and flimsy they are. The aacua is exactly what a baby towel should be: thick, soft, and comforting. In the past, I've had to use two baby towels at a time just to keep our babies warm, especially in the winter, but, with aacua, this is not necessary!

I am completely impressed with maamam's products and love accua. I can't imagine using any other towel. accua is the perfect gift for parents-to-be, too. I am definitely purchasing accua for my sister-in-law, who is due in May. She has yet to experience the difficulty of washing baby and is a bit nervous since she's a first-time mom. I know accua will definitely make life much easier for her and baby!
