Celebrate National Boys & Girls Club Week With Us By Opening the Door & Taking the Tour April 7-13th
When we lived in Ellijay, the Boys & Girls Club was just down the street from us and we donated to them each year. They did so much for our community and children that I was so excited when invited to attend the Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club Live Event with Mom Central! When I was a child, I remember doing trash pick-up on our local roads with the BGCA and I wanted to see what it was like these days. I was amazed at this wonderful facility, which was full of life and happiness. Some of the kids played sports in the gym with friends while others preferred playing pool or making arts and crafts. With hundreds of children there on a daily basis, the director, volunteers and workers definitely have their hands full!

Then, we entered the art room, which was my favorite. Decorated from ceiling to floor, the art room was full of color, imagination and just plain fun.
I loved the ceiling tiles, each showing a different piece of artwork by the Boys & Girls Clubs members.
After going to the art room, we entered the activities area, a place where no quiet can be found. Instead, one can find laughter, fun and games! The room held several pool tables and was a popular hangout for the older kids. We took a moment to play a ball game with some of the other kids and my son, Josiah, had a blast. We bent over, guarding the area between our legs while others tried to get the ball through the space. The kicker? We can only use one hand when touching the ball. It's harder than you think, but was so much fun for all! Josiah was immediately asking if we could play that game at home.
The boys didn't want to leave... until they saw the huge playground outside. After our tour, all of the other bloggers, kids in tow, gravitated towards the playground for more playtime. I ended up going down the slide with Liam and running around like a little kid, too. We had such a great time that I was actually sad to leave. I can tell Brookhaven is an amazing resource for kids and community. This made me, more than ever, want to support our local Boys & Girls Clubs and I think you should, too!
With that said, April 7th through April 13th is National Boys & Girls Club, a week full of exciting events for kids and community members. Just as the Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club opened their doors for us to visit, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta are launching the "75 Blue Doors" Project to help celebrate the 75th anniversary! This shows how local clubs are "opening doors" for youth in and around the Atlanta area. Check out the website for more information and look at all the Blue Door submissions for the contest! It ends on April 13th, so vote today!

Be sure to find a Boys & Girls Club in your area by clicking here! Even if you can't take a physical tour like we did, you can take a virtual tour! Click on "Take the Tour", watch the video and you can also enter for a chance to win one of two $500 from Lowe's of JCPenney!

Celebrate The Week of the Young Child & Pajanimals Boxed Set of Three DVDs Giveaway
Every year, the National Association for the Education of Young Children sponsors and celebrates the Week of the Young Child™ (April 14 – 20), which recognizes that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life. The theme this year is “Early Years Are Learning Years.”
According to the NAEYC site: “Today we know more than ever before about the importance of children's earliest years in shaping their learning and development. Yet, never before have the needs of young children and their families been more pressing. The Week of the Young Child™ is a time to recognize that children's opportunities are our responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment—at home, at child care, at school, and in the community—that will promote their early learning.”
It's Giveaway Time!
To help celebrate The Week of the Young Child, The Jim Henson Company along with NCircle Entertainment are giving away a Pajanimals DVD Gift Set that includes all three Pajanimals DVDs, including:

Trying to Quit Smoking or Want To Make A Change To A Healthier Alternative?
As a mom, I get pretty annoyed when going to a store where there are employees standing right outside the doors smoking. Okay, so when I was in college, I smoked on occasion, but am a non-smoker these days. So, inhaling second-hand smoke is more annoying than ever. I can't handle it the way I used to. Several of my friends and family members do smoke and some of them have been curious about a e-cigarettes. I have to admit, they have sparked my interest, too, since there seems to be many more benefits than smoking a tobacco cigarette and can even help those who wish to quit smoking!
What is an electronic cigarette? It is a device that offers provide nicotine without the risks associated with using tobacco. There are also other benefits, including financial, social and physical. Not to mention, it is a great way to ween yourself off of nicotine and it gives you a more satisfying feeling than wearing a patch. All and all, if more people switched to e-cigarettes, I think it would be win-win.
There are many e-cigarettes on the market, though, and it is hard to know exactly which one is right for you. This is why it is best to read up on electronic cigarette reviews. This can be educational and informative for those looking to switch over. The ecigarettereviewed website is great for this pupose because it offers unbiased and comprehensive reviews of the leading e-cigarettes currently on the market. The reviewers working for the website even inspect the companies who make the cigarettes in order to make sure their products are reliable.
My mom and grandma used to smoke several cigarettes a day and when my grandma tried to quit smoking, the entire process was a failure. After smoking for over 30 years, going cold turkey was just not possible. If only she had the option of e-cigarettes back then, I think she would have had a much better success, especially during the time when she started really craving them. When I see people out and about using an e-cigarette, I actually tell them I applaud their decision to try them because I don't have to inhale the smoke. I even asked someone recently why they decided to try them and he told me he was spending so much money on tobacco that giving them up for e-cigarettes was the financially responsible thing to do and he enjoys them. Plus, he mentioned that he feels healthier because you aren't actually inhaling smoke, but it through water vapor, so he no longer has the awful smokers cough he once had.
Are you considering giving e-cigarettes a try, thinking about quiting or know someone else who could benefit from this information? If so, Ecigarettesreviewed.com is the best place to start. Also, they offer coupon codes for many electronic cigarette brands. You can not only read reviews about the products, but you can also compare prices, too, so you can find one within your price range, save money and give them a try! As a mom, I say drop the tobacco cigarettes, please, because they are not only unhealthy for you, but also for my children who inhale the second-hand smoke. Isn't at least worth a try? I think so.

Show Off Your Unique & Fun Finds Via the New Finds App
Growing up in Athens, Georgia, I cannot tell you how often I found unique and fun items in the downtown shops. Back then, I would share my finds my purchasing the items as gifts for special occasions. Now that I am a blogger, I have the opportunity to share many finds with all of my followers. Let me just start out by saying I LOVE to shop! I can easily waste an hour walking around Target or the mall, just looking at all the new and interesting items for sale. I get so excited when I find great products for our family and I enjoy sharing my finds with others just as much. This is why I was so excited to learn about the new app Finds, which is available for free in the iTunes store!
What's so awesome about Finds? I easily uploaded the app to both my iPhone and my iPad since I usually have one of the two with me when shopping. Then I made my account and was immediately ready to share my finds! Once you have your account (just by adding your name and email address), you can do several different things:
Share your finds- Click the + symbol to take a picture of your unique find. You can edit the picture, add information about the item and also what you think about it. We shared three of my new most favorite products I recently received and purchased. Each time I posted about an item, it immediately shares them with everyone else who has the app. Plus, it automatically links the item up to a website where others can purchase the item! Isn't that ingenious? Here are my first three finds:
I found this view via clicking on my profile. By clicking on one photo, I can pull up the information about it. These are my favorite new finds and I couldn't wait to share them. The first is a Skip-Hop book bag for my son Liam. He absolutely loves this backpack and takes it everywhere with him. The pair of shoes is by Zipz and, true to its name, the top of the shoe can zip on and off, so you can add new tops designs on top of the soles. The last one is something I just bought this weekend, the new Knock Knock Clump-O-Lumps stuffed animals that have interchangeable parts. Just like the shoes, each of these animals has 3 zippered parts that you can change around to create your own new animal. I bet you've never seen a shark-frog before, but now you can! Isn't that cool?
Share your thoughts- You can not only share your thoughts about your own finds, but you can comment on the finds other people add! You can also add your favorite items to your own Wishlist for future reference. This way you can keep up with all your new finds for shopping or sharing with others at a later time.
Find some new finds- Click on the "Finds" button to discover what great finds others have found. Someone posted about Buncha Blocks earlier and they look perfect for my little boys who love to build. There were also some adorable rain boots someone added. In the description it also mentioned where she found them and that they are on sale. Those are my kinds of rain boots. All I had to do was click on the "Find" button on the product picture and I was immediately transported to the website where I could purchase them at great prices.
Get inspired- By looking at all the products people have posted on the Finds app, I have found some great ideas for future birthdays and special occasions. Josiah's 6th birthday is coming up in June, so this is really the perfect place for me to find some inspiration. Plus, he can even look through the finds, too, and let me know what he likes!
I enjoy sharing my finds and am just like a kid in that I still get excited when I find something new and fun, especially when it is something for my kiddos. My favorite thing about the Finds app is that I can see what others have found. I do a great deal of shopping online, so this makes finding new items not only fun, but easy. Plus, I saved money on the rain boots since the link went to a sale website. So, I'm thinking maybe this app can help me find new gift ideas and maybe even save me some money on the gifts.
Do you love shopping as much as I do? If so, the Finds app is definitely for you! This is a fun app for anyone and is so simple to use that even my computer illiterate mom could figure it out. Even after using the app for the past few days, I've grown addicted to it and love checking in to see what else has been added. I love that I can use this app anywhere- on-the-go, at a store, or even at home!

Being Newly Diagnosed With Asthma: My Son's Experience
Growing up, I went to school with other children who had asthma, but had never experienced it or been around anyone in our family who had it. However, once I had children of my own, this completely changed. Being newly diagnosed with asthma can be scary and life-changing, but it doesn't have to be!
Liam, my youngest, was born 5 weeks early and his lungs were not fully developed. He spent 2 weeks in the hospital until his lungs were strong enough to help him breath on his own. When he was about 2 years old, I noticed he had trouble catching his breath while playing outdoors with his brother. Plus, I also often noticed a wheezing noise when he was breathing. We went to the doctor after one particular bad attack that caused him trouble breathing. This is when we found out he has asthma, which means the sides of his lungs cause the airways to become narrowed and inflamed. At this point, I was so worried about what this would mean for him and for our family. How much would our lives change?
What I most regret is not realizing Liam was asthmatic earlier on. I had noticed his wheezing, but thought nothing of it. Now that we do know for sure that he has asthma, I am the type of mom who wants to know everything about the diagnosis, which is why I was excited to find out about Optimal Life: The Essentials of Asthma with Dr. Christine Lee. The set includes a very educational book along with a two-disc DVD set full of information about asthma.
Not only have I learned that millions of Americans are diagnosed with asthma each year, but also that I don't have to fear for my child. The book goes right along with the DVDs and presents the information in and interesting way, which kept me watching and learning. Even my children watched parts of the DVDs and were excited to share their newly learned knowledge with their Papa.
Also, the set includes information on how we can control and manage asthma. We have breathing treatments for attacks, but there are many other ways we can help decrease the chance of attacks. We've learned that there are triggers for his attacks, so we've worked to avoid those triggers. For example, allergies are a huge trigger for Liam, so we have spent a bit more time indoors during these early spring months when pollen is in the air. This has really helped reduce his breathing issues associated with asthma!
Knowledge really is power. When I heard from the doctor for the first time that Liam was diagnosed with asthma, I almost cried, unsure of what this meant. Now that I've received Optimal Life: The Essentials of Asthma, I feel equipped and ready for whatever happens in the future. Not only do I know more about what to expect, but ways I can help my son. I feel reassured that he can lead a full, happy and healthy life. Asthma does not (and has not) slowed him down one bit! I honestly couldn't ask for anything more!
A tip I offer to someone else who is newly diagnosed is to learn as much as you can about asthma. For the first few months, I was very curious about asthma and had many questions, so when I thought of something to ask the doctor, I would write it down. That way I wouldn't forget and could take the list with me during our check-up visits. Never be afraid to ask a question because the doctor is there to help!

Managing & Saving Money With Our Children & @MassMutual
As a high school student, I was discussing my future plans with my parents only to find out that no money had been put away for further education. I was stunned and worried that I would not be able to afford college, even though I knew I wanted to go. Luckily, I was able to get a scholarship and only had to pay for living expenses and books, but they still added up quickly. For this reason, I had to get a job and worked my way through college. For these reasons, I am thinking ahead for my own children. I want them to have many college choices and not to feel like they need to worry about expenses when the time comes for them to graduate high school.
MassMutual found that 74% of parents believe it is a never too early to start saving for their children's college fund and that's exactly how I feel. Of course, it is overwhelming to think about saving, especially in this economy. I, like many other moms, worry about my husband's business and our ability to provide for our children. My husband started his law firm in January, so we put off saving during that time, thinking later would be better for us. However, I am learning that there may never be a "better" time and we could easily put off saving money with the many excuses we can make. Saving money each month is always last on the list of priorities, but this really needs to change for our family. It's hard to know where to start first, I know, which is why MassMutual is a great place to start, providing tips and helpful information about planning your financial future.
Each year brings about the opportunity for a fresh start and that is exactly what we are taking advantage of for 2013. With our new business and a move to a new place, this is our chance to really make a difference and start planning for our future. It's so important to also teach our children about money management. Our children learn from us, so it is very important to set a good example for them. In fact, with us homeschooling, Josiah's favorite subject has quickly become math. He loves learning numbers and, now that he is also learning about money, this is the perfect time to teach him about managing his money, saving it and setting priorities. So far, I think we've done a pretty good job. He's been doing chores to earn money and was so excited to add $45 to his savings account this month! I'm so proud of him for being so interested in saving up for things he really wants and for being so interested in math.
Do you often think about your financial security and saving for the future? Well, MassMutual's State of the American Mom, a new research study, revealed that many Moms want to provide financially for our families, but where do we begin? We aren't the only ones who feel this way, which is why MassMutual put together a very helpful quiz just for moms. It helps assess your financial attitude and helps moms make small steps to saving for the future:
I took the quiz and my results say I am an Eager DIY-er! This means that although I am not happy with my current financial situation, I am eager to make a change I need to make more attainable short-term goals that progresses to bigger long-term goals. That is definitely a correct assessment! What are your results?
You can also check out the MassMutual website to read more and to find a representative near you! You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with the latest news.
