Father's Day Gift Idea: Kalorik Rollie Eggmaster Review & Giveaway

Have you ever wanted a cinnamon roll late at night or early in the morning? When you are the only one eating, there is no reason to make a huge batch, right? I have had many cravings during my pregnancy for cinnamon rolls and really don't want to heat up the oven and make a huge pack of cinnamon rolls, especially late at night. This is why I was so excited to try the Rollie by Kalorik! It is perfect for me and my late night/early morning snack needs.

Have you heard of the Rollie before? I know I hadn't, so here's a little more info about it:
Pretty neat right?

Well after getting the husband to try the eggs for breakfast before work, I knew exactly what I wanted to try out next! A Cinnamon Rollie! (Bet you couldn't have guessed that! Ha!) All I needed to do was plug in the Rollie, let it heat up, roll up my cinnamon roll into a tube shape, stick it in the Rollie for 8 short minutes &and it was done!

A yummy cinnamon roll topped with butter!
Quick, easy & just one for me! There are so many more delicious recipes you can try with the Rollie, including breakfast burritos and egg and sausage pigs in a blanket! You can really be creative with the Rollie and come up with other ideas, too. Take a look at the video below for some great recipe ideas!

What I love about the Rollie:

  • Easy to store.
  • Easy to clean.
  • Perfect for a quick snack/treat for 1.
  • Easy breakfast for my husband in the morning when he doesn't want cereal.
  • Simple for my husband to use.
  • The short cord, makes it safe in my kitchen, it always has to be closer to the outlet keeping the cord from dangling in front of a very curious toddler.

Overall I really did enjoy using the Rollie and it is definitely something that will be used over and over again in my house? This is a great addition to our Kitchen and I can't wait to try out some other recipe ideas.

Have you heard of, or used the Rollie before? What was your experience like? Do you have a favorite recipe?

Make Some Delicious Recipes With Lactose-Free #Lactaid & Giveaway

Disclosure: This sponsored post was written for LACTAID in conjunction with The Motherhood. All opinions provided are my own.

When I was about 8 years old, I came home with a stomach ache almost every day. My parents were at a loss until going to the doctor and finding out I was lactose intolerant. The chocolate milk I had to drink each day with school lunches was a big no no for my stomach and something I had to forgo from them on. Luckily, I've never been much of a milk drinker, but some of my favorite foods are made with milk and those are things I just cannot do without! It just so happens that I not only married someone who is lactose intolerant, but we also have a lactose intolerant son. We, as a family, love to eat and try new dishes, so we don't let this issue stop us at all. After all, I cannot live without my blueberry muffins and pastas, especially pasta with cream sauces!

I had a very informative discussion with Melissa d' Arabian, a celebrity chef and LACTAID Brand Spokesperson along with Michelle Harrington, R.D. and LACTAID Regulatory and Nutritional Affairs Manager all about what it means to be lactose intolerant and what LACTAID can do for those who suffer from it. I learned so much from them and had to share the information with my readers!
LACTAID Products
What does it mean to be lactose intolerant?
By definition, it means the small intestine does not make enough of an enzyme called lactase and, in order to digest lactose, the body needs this enzyme. Since lactose is in the sugar of milk and other dairy products, these cause adverse effects when ingested. What type of effects? It varies depending on the person and while I can handle small amounts of milk, my son can get very sick to his stomach just by drinking it.

What is LACTAID?
This delicious product provides the delicious creamy taste of dairy without stomach discomfort! LACTAID actually provides the lactase our bodies need to break down lactose! This means LACTAID products are 100% real dairy. The only difference is the added natural yeast-derived lactase enzyme! They have many great lactose-free products, including milks, cottage cheese, ice-cream and eggnog.

LACTAID has provided a freedom of food choices for our family. We are not limited in our daily meal selections because we can use LACTAID products in place of those with lactose. Plus, there are some delicious recipe suggestions on the LACTAID website that I cannot wait to try out. We will be trying out LACTAID all this month and reporting back shortly with more thoughts, information and our favorite recipe we've tried with it. We've already made blueberry muffins with it and, of course, they were a hit. Actually, the boys seemed to like them more than usual because they were gone 2 days later!

In our next post, we will write all about cooking with LACTAID, so check back for the next post. Until then, how about a giveaway?

Mother's Day: EatSmart Precision Retro Mechanical Kitchen Scale Review & Giveaway

My husband has high blood pressure and so does my mother-in-law, so we are trying harder than ever to eat more at home and to eat healthier. Last year we worked with EatSmart Products for our Mother's Day Gift Guide and received a great kitchen scale, which has gotten much use from my husband when cooking salmon and chicken especially. This time we received the EatSmart Precision Retro Mechanical Kitchen Scale and I am so in love with this one that I put it out on our counter for everyone to see.

About the EatSmart Precision Retro Mechanical Kitchen Scale
This retro kitchen scale is a beautiful and bright red color that is sure to liven up any kitchen. The scale comes with a removable stainless steel mixing bowl, so just add items to the bowl and sit on top of the scale for quick and accurate measurements. Plus, the mixing bowl is dishwasher safe!
Our Thoughts
I love retro kitchen items and am always scouring stores for vintage items. I just recently added some owl containers and a mushroom recipe holder to my collection, so when I saw this beautiful scale from EatSmart, I knew I had to have it. I've gotten so many compliments about the EatSmart Precision Retro Mechanical Kitchen Scale. It's such a pretty red color that it really stands out and catches everyone's attention.
I didn't realize before receiving the scale, but the stainless steel bowl is separate from the scale, so this means we can weigh fruits and multiple items in the bowl or even liquid items. It also means I can place other containers, plates and bowls on the scale, too. I'm not just stuck with the bowl option. I can pretty much use this for all of my measuring needs in the kitchen. Plus, the bowl easily fits into our fruit bowl, so I could slide it and use it there if needed.
Since we've been cooking more and I've been trying more recipes, I've had to also measure out items more often. We make meals for a family of four, so measuring by pounds is often a must when cooking meats, veggies and sometimes fruits. I absolutely love the EatSmart Precision Retro Mechanical Kitchen Scale and couldn't be happier!

Now that you've read all about the EatSmart Precision Retro Mechanical Kitchen Scale, would you like a chance to win one?

Uncle Ben's Beginner's Contest & Tips For Cooking Healthy Meals As A Family #SocialMoms #BensBeginners

As on on-the-go parent, I easily fell into an unhealthy routine last year that I am bound and determined not to repeat. We often stopped for take-out and fast-foods instead of cooking at home. As our New Year's Resolution, we are going to spend more time cooking as a family and enjoying healthier foods. My two boys love helping me cook, so I know they will enjoy this change. There are many great ways to cook healthier meals that the entire family can enjoy, just by switching up a few things. Uncle Ben's actually has a great contest going on right now for children called the Ben's Beginners Contest, which encourages children to cook and eat healthier foods as a family.

Here are some of my tips for cooking healthy meals with kids!

  1.  Sit down as a family and put together a shopping list for the week. This way you can make one trip to the store instead of several trips, which saves money and gas, and you know exactly what you need to purchase (instead of kids throwing all kinds of junk in the cart).
  2. Buy fruits for snacks instead of junk. Kids always enjoy a snack in the middle of the day, mostly wanting something sweet. Substitute unhealthy items like candy with fruit for them and yourself. It's good for you and satisfies that need for sweets.
  3. Purchase items from your local farmer's market! Many towns now have a weekly farmer's market, including ours. The kids enjoy going, we find delicious seasonal fruits & veggies and i makes it more fun to incorporate this items into our foods.
  4. Add some extra veggies into dishes. There are many entrees that you can easily insert extra veggies. For example, when making spaghetti, throw in some fresh veggies with the sauce, including squash, tomatoes, garlic, etc.
  5. Baking Bread with extra ingredients. I recently found a few recipes for some delicious bread recipes that include veggies. Instead of just plain bread, puree sweet potatoes, pumpkin or butternut squash and include in the recipe. It's amazing how much this changes the taste. Plus, the kids love helping puree foods.
  6. Start your own garden this coming spring. Kids love playing in the dirt, so gardening is right up their alley. Last year we planted tomatoes (big boy and plum tomatoes), strawberries, blueberries, pumpkins, squash and watermelons. I have to admit, I'm not a master gardener, but we had fun planting and it was very exciting when something actual grew and we got to eat it with dinner/lunch.
  7. Add grains as a side dish to a meal! There are so many different grains and many delicious rices available by Uncle Ben's. We've tried several and the kids love the long grain rice with a chicken flavor. Plus, it's one of the less messy items for them to help with, especially the instant kind.

How do you try to eat more healthy foods as a family? Now that you have some tips to get you started, why don't you enter your children in the Ben's Beginners Contest? Here's more information about the Ben's Beginner's Contest:

To empower and encourage parents to connect with their kids, one meal at a time, Uncle Ben’s has launched an exciting national contest called Ben’s Beginners! By entering the contest, you could win $20,000, along with a $50,000 grant towards a cafeteria makeover for your child’s school. In addition, you will have a chance to appear on The Rachael Ray show! Uncle Ben’s is calling forparents with children ages 5-12 to submit a 2-3 minute video of you cooking a rice-based dish with your children. For more info on the contest, please check out Ben’s Beginners on Facebook!

Knock Out The Fat With the George Foreman Next Generation Removable Plate Grill

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6UlZROtTjic/TeZRbh93pGI/AAAAAAAABw4/zGwZGX-7Du4/s1600/logoGeorgeForeman.gif
I remember when George Foreman came out with his very first grill. I received it for Christmas when I was in college and was so excited to have one. I hate to even admit this, but that was about 10-11 years ago now. I officially feel old. Well, the George Foreman Next Generation Removable Plate Grill is not only much bigger, but has some great features that knocks this one out of the ballpark!

George Foreman GRP4B Next Grilleration 72 Square Inch Black Removable Plate GrillI've mentioned a time or two that my husband has high blood pressure and has gained quite a bit of weight over the past few years. It's been my goal to cut down on fatty, salty foods and for all of us to eat healthier. Yes, it's tough, especially with children in the house, but the George Foreman Next Generation Grill is definitely a step in the right direction. With it's special technology to "Knock Out The Fat™", you will find it much easier to cook delicious meals and eat healthily at the same time.

How Exactly Does the Grill "Knock Out The Fat™"?

http://www.thebraggingmommy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/image.png
First, there is no need for oil when cooking your items on the grill due to it's nonstick coating. Secondly, the grill is slightly slanted, which allows fat and grease to cook off of your meat and run down into the drip tray.

New results of independent testing show that the George Foreman Grill removes up to 42% of fat from quarter-pound burgers made with 80/20 ground chuck beef, translating to a reduction of approximately 89 calories per burger!

My Thoughts

I was selected to put the George Foreman Next Generation Removable Plate Grill to the test. Would it, indeed "Knock Out The Fat"? I actually tried two types of meats for separate dinners to compare. The first night, we had 80/20 ground chuck beef marinated with some of my sodium-free goodies. I immediately noticed the fat running down into the drip tray! By the end, I had a delicious, juicy burger without the grease running everywhere. The second time, we had soy burgers. I was very skeptical that any fat would be dripping anywhere and, to my surprise, the George Foreman Grill still managed to make my soy burger meal even healthier! Who knew?!

I absolutely love that this grill is so huge compared to some of the other George Foreman Grills I have owned in the past. At 72 sq. inches, there is plenty of room to cook! I am also a huge fan of the removable plates. I know it comes with the 2 spatulas, just like the older grills, but we all know that didn't adequately clean them. I was always paranoid I'd end up getting the ones without removable plates wet and ruin them. Not to worry anymore!

This grill is super easy to use and plenty of room to cook for the family. I have a feeling the George Foreman Next Generation Removable Plate Grill is going to become my new best friend this summer. In addition to all of the other great things I mentioned, it won't overheat my kitchen, too. That's a major plus here in the south!

What I Learned Through Trial & Error
1. You must let it pre-heat for about 10-15 minutes for it to be able to cook your meat properly. Otherwise, you'll end up with a semi-hot mess.
2. Don't overload the grill with burgers. It only takes about 7 minutes to cook, so put 2-3 on at a time if you are cooking the big, fat ones.
