Earlier today the boys and I set out for yet another Walmart adventure or, as Liam calls it, MopMart. He loves going to Walmart and gets so excited every time we are anywhere in the vicinity! This trip was going to be so much fun because we were specifically buying items for our Elmer's Science Project.We were also buying a few other groceries, but for the most part, it was all about the experiment to come later that evening. Earlier in the day, Josiah and I looked around the internet for ideas and we decided on the perfect project: SLIME! What boy doesn't love slime? I have to admit I was also excited about this project.

There are two main ingredients we needed to purchase during our trip to Walmart. We needed Elmer's School Glue and Borax Detergent. The rest of the items we already have at home, so we made our way around Walmart searching for great sales and all the ingredients to my other experiment of the weekend, Crock Pot Baby Back Ribs! Yum!

Once we got home with all of our project supplies, Josiah could barely wait for me to unload everything and get set up for the experiment. The first thing we did was put together our
Elmer's Tri-Fold Poster Board Elmer's Tri-Fold Poster Board with all of the pertinent information needed to complete the project and make successful slime.

As you can see, we listed all of the supplies needed on the left side of the board, which included a mixing bowl, measuring cup, measuring spoon, warm water, Borax and
8 ounce bottle of Elmer's School Glue. You can also add food coloring, though this step is optional. In the middle of the Elmer's Tri-Fold Board, we listed all of the steps to creating slime and on the right side Josiah included his own slime art, which he named "Slime Time".

After we finished our Elmer's Tri-Fold Board, we moved on to the next part of the project! SLIME! We carefully laid out everything we needed for the project on the counter, along with the instructions.
Here are the instructions on how to make your own slime out of Elmer's Glue and Borax!

- Empty out the 8 ounce Elmer's School Glue contents into the mixing bowl.

- Fill up the glue container with warm water, replace the lid and shake well.
- Empty out the glue/water mixture into the mixing bowl and stir together with the glue.

| Stirring in the water with the glue. This is also where you can add food coloring if you want. We added GLOB natural pomegranate paint to the mixture, which turned it pinkish. |
- In the measuring cup, add 1/2 cup warm water and 1 teaspoon of Borax. Stir.

- As you are stirring the glue mixture in the mixing bowl, slowly add the water/Borax mixture. Keep stirring and adding until you reach the right consistency.

- When the stirring gets to tough to do with the spoon, use your hand.

- When you are finished playing, cover and store in the refrigerator. The slime will last for several weeks this way!

| Save in a bowl, cover and put in the fridge to keep fresh! You can also keep in a plastic zip bag. |
This project was not only fun, but educational! How? The Elmer's Glue binds with the water and Borax mixture to form a polymer! A polymer is a putty-like substance that has the qualities of both a solid and a liquid. What other items are similar? Rubber bands and jello!
You can do experiments on the slime, too. See who can stretch it the longest and measure. Also, you can do several batches, increasing/decreasing the amount of Borax use to test the stretch and how firm the slime gets. Let your little one give a presentation afterwards to see how much they have learned! Josiah had a great time with that part.
