One Smiling Mama: Listerine 21-Day Challenge Update #Listerine #sponsored

Disclosure: I received a Target gift card to purchase Listerine brand products from Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Products Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc. and The Motherhood as part of my participation in the Listerine 21-Day Challenge. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are my own.

As many of you already know, we've been part of the Listerine 21-Day Challenge for the past few weeks and it is time for an update. Okay, when we first began, we were all in need of a change in our oral routines. I, in particular, am very bad about brushing my teeth at night. I make sure the kiddos get theirs brushed and get to bed, but sometimes I fall asleep, too, before brushing mine. Yes, I know it is gross and a very, very bad habit to develop, which is why I was so excited to join the challenge.

What did the challenge involve?
Well, for 21 days we've been using Listerine Whitening Toothpaste along with Cool Mint Listerine Antiseptic Mouthwash and Reach Dental Floss. The boys have always used Listerine Smart Rinse Anticavity, so they continued using that after brushing each day, too! My goal was to establish a great routine as a family and to stay on track every day and night. Our days are so busy, especially with Josiah in school, so when he gets home at 3pm we want to make the most of our time together. First, he finishes school work and then we have playtime together. They go to bed by 8pm, so we decided to brush our teeth together at 7:30pm every single night. This routine has been working really well because I'm usually the one getting them to brush and off to bed, often leaving me forgetting about my own teeth. Now we can brush together and hold each other accountable for staying on track. I think that has been the key to successfully changing up our routine.

What changes have I noticed?
When I started the challenge, I noticed my teeth were starting to look a little yellow, they weren't as shiny as they used to be and my mouth didn't feel very clean, even after brushing. The first time I flossed and then brushed my teeth with Listerine Whitening Toothpaste, my mouth immediately felt cool and fresh. Brushing my teeth was actually enjoyable for once! After brushing I thought to myself just how clean my mouth felt. Seriously, it had been a long time since I felt that fresh, cool feeling in my mouth after brushing.

Before the challenge, I always smiled with my mouth closed because I knew my teeth weren't as white as I would like and my mouth wasn't as healthy as it should be.
Before the challenge began!
After about a week I noticed something different happening. My teeth were actually squeaking. They were, as they say, squeaky clean, and that was something very new to me! Since my first day, I've also noticed my gums are healthier. I didn't always floss like I should or use mouthwash often either, which caused redness and irritation, especially when flossing. Well, now I can floss like a champ without the bleeding or redness. That's how I can tell my gums have changed and become stronger

After the challenge, I am smiling wide and very happy with the results!
After smile!
Although my teeth already feel clean after brushing and flossing, I top it all off with a swish of Listerine Antiseptic, which gives that final burst of freshness. Okay, it burns a little, but is totally worth it because, afterwards my mouth feels amazing.

After 21 days of my new routine, I can honestly say my mouth feels healthy, my teeth are whiter than ever and it just makes me want to smile all the time. My only thought was why didn't I do this earlier? I guess I needed the extra push to change my oral routine and am so glad that I got it thanks to the challenge.

Swish, swish, swish!
Did you take the challenge? Or are you ready to begin? This is your call to take the Listerine 21-Day Challenge because it can also help children in need! For each person who posts a "Swish Selfie" to the Listerine Facebook page, Listerine will donate $5 to Oral Health America's Smiles Across America program, up to $85,000. Their goal is to connect 210,000 children with oral health services in 2014 that would otherwise not be able to receive them. This wonderful cause can really help change the lives of children and YOU can be a part of it, so please do!

Good News Thursday - Our Good News For The Week

I was so excited to see that two of my good blogging friends from The More the Merrier, Joy of Momma Joyner and Anderson's Angels started a new meme called Good News Thursday. It gives us all a chance to share good news with others and to be positive. We all know bad things happen and usually news focuses on the bad and negative, so this is a place where we can smile, be happy and be positive for each other! We've had some great news lately and I couldn't wait to share it all.
First of all, we are settled in our new home. After a long and exhaustive search, we found a place of our own here in Canton, Georgia and absolutely love not only our home, but the wonderful neighborhood. They are so child-friendly and have events especially for them, so the kids are very excited. There is also a pool and lake, which will be perfect this spring and summer!

Being silly boys in their tent!
Secondly, I've been invited to the Atlanta Parenting Blogger Expo later this month. I've honestly never attended a conference before and am so excited to attend. Not only will I have a chance to see some of my blogging friends and meet new bloggers, but I'll also meet some new businesses, so that may mean more reviews and giveaways for you! Plus, my birthday is this month, so my husband and I are going to make a weekend of the expo and go away together. I can't wait!

I love my two boys, but can't wait for a trip away with Papa!
In other good news, we are finally germ free at our home. We went through two rough weeks of sickness thanks to the good old southern weather. One day it was 70 degrees and the next we went below zero. Spring is nearing, though, and the weather is finally warming for good. I don't think I've ever been as happy to see the blooming flowers. I can't wait to start planting our garden here at our new home. We have the perfect spot for flowers and some yummy tomato plants.

Do you have some good news to share?
We'd love to hear it. Leave a comment below and let us know. If you have a blog, be sure to link up and share your good news each week, too, by clicking a link above to one of the hosts.  Have a great day!

Delicious Dish Tuesday Link-Up : Spinach Almond & Raisin Poppy Seed Salad Recipe

Full Time Mama
Some of my friends run this great weekly meme called Delicious Dish Tuesday and I've wanted to participate for so long. Luckily, I finally found the time to do it and have a great salad for everyone to try out.

For this dish, here is everything you need to purchase at the grocery store:
  • Baby Spinach
  • Honey Roasted Chopped Almonds
  • Raisins
  • Poppy Seed Dressing (we used Brianna's Home Style Poppy Seed Dressing, but there are other brands, too. Kroger also has their own Poppy Seed dressing that tastes great.)
Directions
Place spinach in a large bowl. We used the bag spinach, so it was just enough to fill up our mixing bowl. Then throw in a handful of almonds (to your liking) and 1/4 cup of raisins. Next, add in the poppy seed dressing. We include 2 Tablespoons (because I love the dressing), but you can add as much or as little as you want. It honestly doesn't take much! Lastly, lightly toss it all together to mix all the ingredients (if you don't mix thoroughly, the almonds will fall to the bottom, but once mixed, the dressing will hold them in place)!
This is such an easy salad to create and definitely makes an impression. A friend made it for me years ago and, to this day, it is my go-to salad when throwing a dinner party. It's pretty, delicious and a favorite for our family. Even my boys, who don't usually eat salad, go crazy for this one.

Achieving The American Dream With MassMutual #Sponsored #MC

I participated in an Influencer Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for MassMutual. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.

Before having children, I have to admit I didn't think about money very often and pretty much lived paycheck to paycheck. However, that has completely changed now that I have a family. According to MassMutual's State of the American Family Study, two-thirds of parents are constantly thinking about what would be best for their immediate family and I definitely fall into that category. Just as my own parents, my husband and I have goals set for our future and we want to make sure we succeed not only for ourselves, but for our children. Just like many others, we follow our own American dream and hope for a better future.

Our little family!
MassMutual is dedicated to helping families achieve their American Dream, an idea that is different for all families, but the basis behind this national ethos is to achieve financial stability through hard work. Both of my parents are from families that definitely worked hard in textile mills, but unfortunately made little money. They went without much as children and both wanted more in life. For this reason, they both left home in pursuit of the American Dream. My dad joined the Marines, traveled the world and, upon returning to the States, he found a job that would soon provide him the financial means to attend college. As a child I remember him coming home exhausted because he would work all day and go straight to class after work. He never gave up on his dreams, eventually received a Masters in Business. Through his hard work, he achieved his dreams and provided a better financially stable life for all of us.

Our inspiration
My parents taught me to set goals and never give up, which is why I so badly want to make an even better life for my own children. Through MassMutual's study, I found out that half of the households who participated intended on paying for their children to attend college. I can completely relate to this statistic because one of our top priorities is to do the same for the boys. My husband and I were fortunate enough to attend college, but we both worked jobs to pay for our expenses and will be paying off student loans for many, many years. We graduated school with thousands of dollars in debt and do not want that for our own children.

My husband dreamed of becoming a lawyer and opening his own law firm for many years, so finally being able to open his firm last year was just amazing. The business is doing well so far and, though it is just now taking off, we have hopes of a strong financial future. Since we are just starting out, budgeting is key to not only paying our bills, but saving for the future. I was not at all surprised to see in MassMutual's study that our generation (those born from 1980-1987), who are just starting out, state their top goal as identifying a monthly budget and buying a home. We just recently moved into a new house (a rental), but we eventually want to buy our own house with a nice yard the kids can enjoy. I think we will get to a point where we can do this as long as we stay focused and continue budgeting.
My husband hard at work at our new home!

I can only imagine what the future will bring, but I'm hoping for financial security, happiness and health! My husband and I met each other 8 years ago while working at the UGA library, making less than 15k a year and without plans for the future. So much has changed, for the better, during those 8 years and I believe with love, hard work and dedication, we will continue to succeed! Our children are great inspirations to us, too, because somehow just put everything in perspective. Many years from now they will fill our shoes and I want them to know they can fulfill their own American Dream just like us.

7 out of 10 people want to be more actively involved in their own financial decisions and, if you are one of those 7 people like us, you definitely need to check out MassMutual's Family Finances Study. Their website is a great informational resource and can help you can for the future.

GE Reveal Light Bulbs Review & $50 Target Gift Card Giveaway #GEreveal #TargetGiftCard

We just recently moved into our new home and, not until we started moving in furniture did I realize just how dark the rooms were. The overhead lighting definitely left something to be desired. The boys and I immediately headed to Target to buy some floor lamps to spread around the living room since we spend most of our time there. This was the perfect considering we just received the new GE Reveal Light Bulbs that are also available exclusively at Target. If you enjoy shopping there as much as I do, you need to download the Cartwheel app on your phone and/or tablet. You can find some great coupons on the app, download them and save money the next time you go shopping.

When we moved, we decided to get rid of our old furniture and purchase new items for our home, so I couldn't wait to start decorating. It didn't take much to really make the living room look nice and inviting. More than anything I wanted it to be comfortable and a place where we would want to spend time together as a family.
Our living room all lit up with our new lamps & Reveal bulbs!
The type of light bulbs used in a room really make a difference and this could not be more apparent than when using GE Reveal LED bulbs! They provide a clean, beautiful light that helps illuminate the room, much like regular sunlight. Some bulbs give off a dim, yellow looking light, but not the Reveal bulbs. They provide a clean full spectrum light, which filters out the dull yellow colors often found from standard incandescent light bulbs. Here's a comparison of a room without and with GE reveal light bulbs! See what a difference they make?
See the white light from our lamp?
My husband had heard about the new GE Reveal Light Bulbs and had mentioned wanting to try them because they are energy efficient! In fact, they use 28% less energy than other bulbs, so that's not only good for the environment, but saves you money, too! As soon as the sun went down the night after we purchased the new floor lamps, I turned them on and was surprised by the beautiful light that lit up the room. There was no yellow tint that sometimes hurts the eyes.
Our new décor, along with the GE Reveal light bulbs, has made our home not only beautiful and pleasing to the eye, but a perfect place for our children to grow up, play and have a great time! The next time you are shopping at Target, be sure to look for the new GE Reveal Light Bulbs and give them a try. I know you will love them just as much as we do. Don't forget to download the Cartwheel App before you go. It is available via Apple IOS and for Android! You can find a variety of great coupons and can save some money on your shopping trip.

Thanks to GE Lighting, One Lucky Children Teaching Mama Reader Will Win A $50 Target Gift Card & GE Reveal Light Bulbs so you can makeover a room, too!

I'm Taking The Listerine 21-Day Challenge #Listerine #sponsored

Disclosure: I received a Target gift card to purchase Listerine brand products from Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Products Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc. and The Motherhood as part of my participation in the Listerine 21-Day Challenge. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are my own.

My parents were always adamant about brushing teeth twice a day- once in the morning and then once at night before bedtime. Now that I have kids, I make sure they do the same, but I have to admit that I sometimes fall behind on brushing my teeth and flossing like I should. My biggest issue is finding time at night to brush teeth. I'm so busy with the kids, getting them to do homework, getting them in the bath and then putting them to sleep, that I often forget. That's why I was excited to sign up for the Listerine 21-Day Challenge! I know I need to step up my oral routine and that's exactly what I'm going to do over the next month. This is our first post, but we'll follow up later on to let you know how well it has gone and what has changed for me.

Why am I so excited about starting this new challenge? Well, just a few months ago I had a wake-up call letting me know just how much I'd slipped from my oral routine. One of my old fillings fell out from when I was a child and it damaged my tooth to the point of needing a root canal. It was a scary moment and I'd never been in that situation before,  nor do I want to be anytime in the future.

The boys and I went on a shopping trip to Target this past week and picked up all of our needed Listerine products. Target just happens to be my favorite place to shop, so we had a blast and, of course, ended up buying much more than what we went to purchase. Pictures will be added as soon as I can get them loaded. Did you know that even when brushing teeth 75% of your mouth is not cleaned? So, in addition to brushing with Listerine Whitening Original Gel Flouride Anticavity Toothpaste, I'll be using Listerine Antiseptic, Listerine Smart Rinse and Reach dental floss twice a day every single day. It will definitely be a challenge, but I think it will become a welcomed routine and something I will keep on top of from hereon. I just needed the push to get started and this is the perfect time to do so. I can't wait to show you the difference in my oral health at the end of the challenge. I'm sure my gums and teeth will be much happier!

Not only will I benefit from taking the Listerine 21-Day Challenge, but it can also help children in need. For each person who posts a "Swish Selfie" to the Listerine Facebook page, Listerine will make a $5 contribution to Oral Health America's Smiles Across America program, up to $85,000 towards their goal of connecting 210,000 children with oral health services in 2014. This is such a wonderful cause and something that can help change a child's life.

Until our next post, I urge each of you to also take part in the Listerine 21-Day Challenge and don't forget to post your "Swish Selfies" on the Listerine Facebook page! While on their Facebook page, you can find info about the challenge, about their partnership with Oral Health America and you can see the best of the selfies submitted by others! Maybe yours will be there, too!

Also, be sure to join us for the Listerine Twitter party on Tuesday, February 25th at noon ET! We'll be there with The Motherhood and some other great blogging friends. Hope to see you there!

Spring Shopping At Oshkosh B'gosh + 20% off Coupon Code #MC #OshkoshBGosh #sponsored

I participated in an Influencer Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for OshKosh B’gosh. I received a gift card to facilitate my shopping trip and to thank me for participating.

When I was much younger, I remember my mom buying me a pair of pink Oshkosh B'gosh corduroy overalls that I absolutely loved. I wore them all the time and, almost 25 years later, my niece was able to wear the same pair of overalls. After all of that wear, those little overalls were still in great shape and had much life left in them. Just like in the 80s, Oshkosh B'gosh is still going strong and making adorable quality clothes for children. For this reason and because I love to shop, I was so excited to work with them on a review and visit our local Oshkosh store that just recently opened.

As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted and asked if we needed any help, which is always so nice when entering a store. In addition, the new spring clothes were neatly stacked and displayed right at the front, so they immediately caught my eye. Now is the perfect time to start gearing up for spring and, after all of this snow, we are definitely ready for some nice warm weather here in Georgia!

The entire store was having a 20% off sale and many of the clothes were already on sale, so there were some great discounts and I was going to take full advantage of that. We were given a $100 gift card to spend at the store and I wanted to see just how much I could purchase for Liam and Josiah. Liam, as usual, kept finding outfits he wanted along with other accessories, including the kitty mask and ears pictured below:
Since Liam is a size 4 and Josiah is a size 7, this means their clothes are in different sections of the store. I have to admit, I love dressing my boys in matching outfits and thankfully Oshkosh B'gosh has many of the same outfits in both small and large sizes! Liam loved a shirt with a dog riding a motorcycle and I was happy to see it was available in both of their sizes. Paired with some soft and warm sweatpants, this made for a very cute outfit!

While scoping out all of the clothes, I found a clearance rack that had shirts from $3.99 and up. On one of the Spring outfit tables I found the cutest outfit of all and decided this would be their future Easter outfit. The long-sleeved plaid shirts have bright blue, green and white lines interwoven. I got the same shirt for both boys and let them pick out their favorite color pants since they had a variety of matching colors. Josiah picked green and Liam picked blue. I couldn't wait to get home and have them try on their new clothes.
Aren't they just adorable. I didn't notice until we were leaving the store, but they had matching bowties, too. I will have to go back and get those! There were so many cute clothes at the Oshkosh B'gosh store, but I knew it was time to leave after an hour and had to make myself head to the checkout counter. I ended up with their Easter outfits, the doggy shirts and sweatpants, the cat mask and ears that Liam had to have, and another gorilla hoodie Liam picked out on the rack with Boys Hoodies. In all, we purchased eleven items. I got 20% off the purchase and, since I am a rewards member, I had another 20% off coupon. I paid just over $100 AND I got $20 in reward dollars to spend the next time I am in-store! I was really impressed with the great prices and can't wait to go back and buy more, including the bowties.
Liam's hoodie!
From my own experience as a child with Oshkosh B'gosh, I know that all of these clothes will last a very long time. When they outgrow them, they will all go in a box until the next little one comes along to wear them! So, after reading all about Oshkosh B'gosh are you ready to go shopping? Luckily, we have a 20% off code to share with our readers so you can save, too!
This coupon can be used online & in-store through March 12, 2014! Click here to locate an Oshkosh B'gosh store near you. Happy shopping! Be sure to come back here and let us know what your purchased on your shopping trip. We want to know!

I participated in an Influencer Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for OshKosh B’gosh. I received a gift card to facilitate my shopping trip and to thank me for participating.

Celebrate Valentine's Day With The Perfect Card From Cardstore #OkaytoCry #MC #sponsored @Cardstore

I participated in a Blogger Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Cardstore.com. I received complimentary cards and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

It may be cold outside, but February is one of my favorite months of the year because we get to celebrate Valentine's Day! It's a day of love, happiness and warmth, even more so now that I have kids. My boys get so excited to send Valentine's cards and to receive them from friends and family. Do you have any special plans this Valentine's Day? We usually make dinner as a family and I always make little gift bags full of goodies for the boys. Last year I filled the bags with a few toys, candies and a card, so I think this will end up being a tradition for us. This year is extra special because Josiah is in 1st grade and his class is exchanging cards. As for my husband and I, we always exchange cards each year and it gets harder and harder to find one that really reflects my sentiments. When I found out about Cardstore's Valentine's Day card selection, I couldn't wait to check them out and pick one out for him. We ordered cards from Cardstore during the holidays and they were beautiful, so I knew they would have some great ones for this occasion as well.

Of course, when choosing a card for my husband, I want it to reflect my love for him and fit our personalities. I think about everything we've done together over the years - the places we've been, our journey as a couple and now as a family, and what we will experience together as a family in the future. When picking cards at a store, the perfect card is especially hard to find because they cannot be personalized or changed in any way, but when making cards via Cardstore, you can always find the perfect card because they are customized to your own liking! I found a card that really stood out to me and was so surprised that I could not only add the photos I liked, but I could change around the wording to make it special and one-of-a-kind. In addition to changing the text, I could change colors, fonts, edit photos and even include a signature. In the end, I think I created the best card yet for my husband and he will be so surprised to receive it.
The outside of the card I made!

I included a photo from our wedding back in December 2006 and one that was just taken in December 2013. After all of these years, our love still continues to grow and that's exactly what I wished to convey in my card. Maybe, just maybe, I will get him to shed a tear or two. After all, the ultimate goal of a card is to really make someone feel special and loved. I know this card will do just that! Plus, it's Valentine's Day and Cardstore knows better than anyone that it's okay to cry on this day of the year. I am so sentimental that I cry just about every time my husband and kids give me anything. I guess that's just part of being a parent. It all goes by so quickly and I just want to savor every single moment with them!

I also made a great card for my boys. Liam loves Care Bears, so imagine my delight when I found a Care Bears Valentine's Day card for kids from Cardstore! I immediately went in to edit the card and personalize it for Liam and Josiah. On the inside, I could include a photo, so I put in a new picture I just took last week of them playing in the snow since they were having such a wonderful time together. I honestly cannot wait to see their excitement when they receive their valentine in the mail! They have no idea it is coming, so they will be completely surprised.

As I briefly mentioned above, there is another thing that makes Cardstore stand out from others and that is because Cardstore can ship the card directly to your recipient. That's right! You don't have to wait for the card to be printed and mailed to you before shipping it out once again. Cardstore saves you that huge step and lots of time by sending the card for you. You have no idea how many times I've had great intentions to send a card to someone and it ends up sitting on my table until it's too late. I'm quite the procrastinator, so having this option is just what I need. You can choose to send it immediately or pick a date in the future and the card will magically be delivered!

We hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day! Don't forget to take a look at the Cardstore selection! Tomorrow, February 6th, is the LAST day you can order to guarantee delivery by Valentine's Day. The prices are comparable to those at other stores, but they can be personalized, which just makes them even more special!
