Mary's Softdough

Josiah loves arts and crafts so we color, paint, and work on projects pretty much every day. I saw something on tv a while ago about making your own play dough. We gave it a try, but it honestly just turned into a big sticky mess and was much more trouble that I expected. This is when I searched online for an alternative dough using natural ingredients and stumbled across Terrapin Toys, the creators of Mary's Softdough!

Mary started making her special softdough in 1988 to sell at her local farmer's market! Originally made by her mother, Mary took the recipe and has expanded her softdough line to include many wonderful additions that maker her dough so special. She has created a variety of scented softdough, including a line of naturally scented dough. Mary's Softdough also includes glow-in-the-dark, glitter, classic colors and rainbow tubs!

Mary's Softdough is recommended for children 3 and up. Made of non-toxic ingredients and scented with essential oils, it's safe to eat, but it's extremely salty so I don't expect little ones will go back for seconds after satisfying their curiosity!

My Thoughts
We received each of the naturally scented Mary's Softdough varieties: orange, lavender, lemon, peppermint, rose, and vanilla. Also included was a Softdough Tool Set and a Rainbow Softdough tub! I couldn't wait to smell all of the scents, which were all surprisingly strong and smelled delicious. I love the orange and lavender scents, but Josiah was a fan of vanilla and rose.

We took everything along with us to the beach, which came in quite handy on a rainy day! My niece, nephew, and son had a ball guessing the scents, mixing them together to create a new scent, and using the tool set to make new shapes. What surprised me the most was that, after several days of play, Mary's Softdough was still just as soft as the day we opened it. Whenever we use other brands (i.e. Play-Doh), they tend to dry up pretty quickly. Mary also provided a great tip: Whenever her softdough starts to dry up, add a little oil to make it nice and soft again!

We absolutely love Mary's Softdough and will be buying more in the future! Josiah wants to play with it every day and, I must admit, I enjoy playing with it, too. It's just so soft and squishy!
