Juppy Baby Walker Review & Giveaway

A few months ago I started reading about baby walkers since Liam was old enough to benefit from one. The more I read about walkers, the more concerned I became. Many consumer groups, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, have called for a ban on all walkers due to all of the accidents and recalls occurring each year. So, what could I do? I was beginning to think I was doomed to b hunched over for months to come, supporting Liam until he could walk unsupported. That's when I found the Juppy Baby Walker!

The Juppy is a cloth baby walker that safely allows baby to practice walking. Parents control the walker by adjustable straps so they (the parent) can stand upright and avoid lower back pain while helping teach baby more controlled leg and foot movement. This innovative, non-traditional baby walker is recommended by physicians and pediatricians alike, agreeing on the benefits for both parents and baby!

For ages 6 months to 13 months, and fitting up to 30 pounds, the Juppy can teach babies to walk earlier and minimize dangerous falls and accidents by teaching them more controlled movements. The Juppy folds into a small portable satin carrying bag which can easily fit inside a purse or diaper bag! Although my Juppy is black, they are now available in pink and blue! They are so cute!

My Thoughts

My son, Liam, is a preemie and has a few health issues which have left him a little developmentally behind for his age. Now at 10.5 months old, his head is still abnormally large and causes him balancing issues, effecting his ability to sit up for long periods of time. I was excited to review the Juppy because I read about it possibly minimizing falls and accidents, which would be wonderful since he topples over so easily and we have hardwood floors. Ouch!

We first tried the Juppy when Liam was about 9.5 months old and just learning to sit up unassisted. His legs were already pretty strong, but would give under the weight of his body fairly quickly. Over the past month we've worked with Liam to help him sit up unassisted and also used the Juppy to strengthen his legs. After using the Juppy for a week, I was amazed at how long he could stand up and, with the helps of the straps, I helped move his feet, one at a time, to teach him the correct movements. He absolutely loves the Juppy, laughing and babbling the entire time. I really thought the straps would bother him, but they are perfectly placed as not to interfere with arm movement!

So, today, as my final review, I slide Liam into his Juppy and he was immediately ready for a walk! It always takes him a minute to adjust, but then he takes off, chasing after his brother. That's him walking towards Josiah and laughing in the picture above. It's the funniest thing to watch! It's like he's been waiting for that moment- to be able to keep up with Josiah and run around. He still has a ways to go before he will be able to walk unassisted (which is definitely okay with me!!!) and still needs help holding himself up, but he has the foot movements down completely. It's amazing how far he has come.

I can tell Liam loves the freedom of getting around so, the Juppy is wonderful exercise and great fun for him. I couldn't be more pleased at his progress and all the strength he is gaining in his legs. My only "complaint" is my own arm strength! After helping hold up 22 pounds for 15 minutes, my arms are burning and sore! I definitely recommend this product for parents, especially those who are looking for something to increase leg strength and coordination.
