Book Description (from Amazon.com)
Flightless Goose is a story based around a real goose which lived on a lake in Columbus, Ohio. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, the goose was unable to fly south for the winter with the other geese. Eric and Nataliya Goodman, after witnessing the incident, named the goose Gilbert, and envisioned a beautiful tale that would delight children, while subtly teaching them lessons about self worth, tolerance, and friendship. Every child will be able to identify with Gilbert and his adventures for he liked to swim, and run, and fly. Let s go Gilbert!

My Thoughts
When I read about this book, I couldn't wait to get it for Josiah. He loves books and this looked right up his alley. Last year we read The Ugly Duckling and, as this book is comparable, I thought he would enjoy it. As I read Flightless Goose by Eric D. Goodman, he was absolutely captivated! The goose, Gilbert, is so endearing and lovable, that you can't help but enjoy his story. To learn that Gilbert is a real goose just makes the story even more heart-warming.
We read this story 3 times in one day and each time Josiah sat, looking at the pictures, asking questions, and enjoying every page. The illustrations are very pretty, too, and go perfectly with the story. This is a longer story for children with a wider attention span and a bit more difficult for beginning readers.
I definitely recommend Flightless Goose. Your children will love this book and want to read it over and over. Believe me!
