Summer Block Party #9: Mega Bloks: Thomas & Friends Sodor Search and Rescue Review & Giveaway (US & CA)

There are two things Josiah is currently obsessed with: Mega Bloks and Thomas the Train. When I saw the Mega Bloks Thomas & Friends Sodor Search and Rescue I couldn't wait for him to receive it. I knew he'd be super excited!

My Thoughts

Like I said, I knew Josiah would love this toy, but what I didn't count on was just how cool it really was! We have several different buildable Mega Bloks sets, including Smurfs, Yo Gabba Gabba, and Ni Hao Ka i-Lan, which were all hits in our house, but the Thomas & Friends Sodor Search and Rescue is, by far, the very best set we have!

The main problem I have with blocks is a good way to store them, but this one actually comes inside a plastic container. Even better, the container doubles as part of the track! Josiah has gotten a kick out of the set because the possibilities for creating the tracks are endless. Every day he has played with this Mega Bloks set and every day he's displayed everything in a different way.

Mega Bloks are the perfect size for smaller hands. We began with the biggest Mega Bloks when Josiah was a year old and have moved up over the years. The Smurf set pieces are a little too small for him, but the Thomas & Friends set is perfect. Nothing entertains him like the imaginary play Mega Bloks creates. Plus, it increases his hand-eye coordination! I really can't say enough about them! Any child that loves Thomas will have a blast with this set!

Verizon FiOS- Paving The Way In Technology

As a Mom on the go, I rarely have time to watch tv during the day and NEVER get to watch shows at night that I would love to see.The only time I can actually sit still and enjoy tv is after the kids are asleep. I used to rent movies to watch at this time, but now there is something even better- Verizon FiOS.

 What is the Verizon FiOS? In short, TV, Internet, and Telephone services. It is MANY things with many options, which is why it's so great. My very favorite feature is the FiOS Internet with the Flex View option. With an amazingly fast internet speed, you can stream videos on your desktop, laptop AND Mobile devices. You can use the service anywhere at any time! With over 24,000 titles already available, you'll always be able to find something interesting to watch. I'll be using it mostly for myself, but it will definitely come in handy on vacations, rainy days, and other times I need to entertain the kids in a hurry.

I value the time I have to myself and there is nothing I hate more than dealing with a slow internet connection that makes me work to watch a movie or show. Verizon FiOS is fast and dependable. I've never heard anything negative said about their services, which is more than I can say for most others! I've tried a few other services myself and they have their good points, but are sometimes very slow.

The other service I really like is the Verizon FiOS TV and HDTV. Okay, I've had regular cable for many years and, believe me, once you switch to HDTV, you will NEVER want to go back. It's amazingly clear to the point where you can notice things you never would have before. That little dot turns into a clearly visible golf ball. The Verizon fiber optics enhance the tv experience. The coolest thing for those of us who love social media sites? You can post updates and such on Facebook and Twitter!

It's amazing how truly advanced technology has become! I'm ready to move up in the world of technology and Verizon is definitely paving the way for those of us who are not as technologically advanced and apt. Verizon FiOS TV and Internet are both easy to use, too. There's really nothing more that I could ask for in a service like this! Now, it's time for me to get back to my movie. I was so excited to give CertainDri a try after noticing sweat stains on one of my favorite shirts. I was so upset and knew it was time to do something. You apply CertainDri at bedtime and, if you shower in the morning, it will not wash off! It will actually last 72 entire hours! Another great thing about CertainDri is that you don't have to apply much so it lasts a long time. The major different between CertainDri and other anti-perspirants is that it actually works to shrink sweat glands and keep you dry all day.


I applied CertainDri before going to sleep and thought the powder scent smelled pretty good. I couldn't bring myself to go without deodorant the next day just because I am paranoid, but I just noticed CertainDri has a new product, CertainDri A.M. I noticed a slight difference after one night, but, by the end of the week and being outside often, I could really tell how well it works. My Thoughts

We received a Dozen Chocolate Strawberries from Shari's Berries to review and, let me just say, they didn't last longer than 2 days. Between the four of us. the strawberries really didn't stand a chance. Deliciously topped with a nice thick layer of chocolate, the strawberries seemed to melt in our mouths. I was happily surprised to receive them well-packed and still cool at my doorstep, too!

I can honestly say my husband's eyes about popped out of his head when I showed him his gift. He was so excited to finally try Shari's Berries after hearing his co-workers talk about them. My Thoughts

I was so excited to learn about Lilla Rose hair jewelry since my hair is so thin. I first watched the video tutorial and read about the different sizes, which helped me decide on the extra small Flexi Clip. It would work best with my type of hair and the kinds of types of styles I would pull my hair back for the most. The next part was the hardest- deciding on which clip to review! There are so many I love, but finally decided upon the Silver Celtic Knot.

Of course, I had to give it a try as soon as it arrived. For the very first time in my entire life, I put the clip in my hair and didn't have to fix or redo my hair all day long! We went to the park, went shopping, played with the kids, and it was still in place!!! I was utterly amazed. Plus, it looked so pretty having half up and half down that I got lots of compliments. I was more than satisfied, especially because it took me all of 30 seconds to pull it back.

Top Things That People Should Stop Saying Regarding Breastfeeding

 As a natural mom, I really wanted to breastfeed both of my children. It just so happens that Liam was a preemie, so I ended up having to pump and they'd feed him through a tube and then he had to take it through a bottle later on. Just like many babies, once he got home, his digestion changed and he started having severe constipation and other issues no matter what we did. Needless to say, breastfeeding didn't last longer than 2 months, unfortunately.

I completely support breastfeeding and encourage all moms to try, but sometimes it just can't happen. I just came across an article on Just West of Crunchy's blog and was inspired to link up to her and write my own list of things people say about breastfeeding that really peeve me. These are all Just West of Crunchy inspired, so some are the same and/or similar!

6 Breastfeeding Myths

1. Everyone Can Breastfeed! That just isn't so. It doesn't always come naturally, babies don't always latch on easily, and other issues can arise. So many Mamas end up feeling guilty because they cannot breastfeed and others make them feel guilty, too, but they shouldn't. If you try and it doesn't happen, at least you did give it a try, which is more than I can say for many.

2. Formula = Poison! While I do encourage Mamas to breastfeed or give it a try, formula is the next choice if it doesn't work out. What else can they feed the baby if not breast milk? Obviously it isn't poison and I hate when people act like it is. I know plenty of formula fed babies and all of them are as healthy as those who were breastfed.

3. If you don't breastfeed, you obviously don't care enough about your children. Please! It's hard to even comment on this. I've even heard people comment that formula fed babies should be taken away from their parents. It's just ridiculous.

4. Your Breastmilk Not Coming In? Other issues? Well, try _____ and it will work! I'm sure you've gotten all types of advice from other Mamas. Try some special teas, herbs, foods, etc. While some Mamas have luck with them, they aren't a definite.

5. Your Baby Isn't Latching/Eating- Keep Trying, It Will Happen. When I hear this, in the back of my mind I'm thinking this equates to "Starve your baby and eventually they'll drink something." When I had trouble breastfeed my first, the lactation consultant kept telling us this and even sent us home without Josiah latching or eating properly. Wrong, lady! She should have helped me get the hang of it before sending us on our way to be at home with a crying baby, wondering what the heck to do. 

6. Breast Is Best! Okay, yes, I do think breastfeeding should be the first choice for any Mama, but is it always best for the child? The answer is no. Do you drink, smoke, take medicine? If so, breast is definitely not always best.

I realize there are many great reasons to breastfeed, but I also think that we, as Mamas, should support each other on our decisions and try to help each other rather than criticize.

Since my son was old enough to walk, he's loved running through the rain and jumping in puddles. That's why he's had Kidorable rain boots since he was 1 year-old because they are not only adorable, but completely functional. I love Kidorable and am so excited to finally do a review for them!

We received the Fireman Rain Coat and the matching Fireman Rain Boots to review. Of course, as soon as they arrived, Josiah snatched them up and had to wear them around... for days! He's had the Frog Rain Boots twice in the past and decided he wanted to try something different.

I was very impressed with the bright red colors of the coat and boots. Josiah loved the printed flames on both, too. He loves the bright red color, just like a real fireman, and the flames printed on them. I love the rain coat, which also came with a free matching hand-painted wooden hanger. I wish his entire closet had those hangers!! Plus, the rain coat was very detailed and waterproof! With buttons, snaps, and a hood, no rain was getting through it!

We love Kidorable and were, as always, very happy with the fireman boots and rain jacket! All the items we've ever purchased are bright, cute, and well-made!

One of my favorite things about summer is that we spend much more time outside. We invite friends over, sit on our deck, and, my favorite, we grill out! My Thoughts

I pack snacks for the kids, store leftovers, and have frozen the fruits and veggies from our garden!

My Thoughts
